After living in this space for 13 years, we finally improved the loft area by clearing out the old chimney and laying a new floor.
We took 140 pounds of old, nasty carpet remnants to the dump! 
Bye-bye, gross oozy chimney! 
Whoever originally laid this subfloor just decided to skip the most difficult parts.

Something like 280 pounds of chimney, hauled down the ladder. 
Roof is patched … now for the floor & ceiling. 
Our friend claims he saw this ladder technique in Popular Mechanics. 
Apparently it’s hard to shoot spray foam upwards. 
The toughest corner for laying flooring! Not too many pictures of our floor-laying process, because we were both hard at it!
