Purple House: upstairs reno (July 19-23)

After living in this space for 13 years, we finally improved the loft area by clearing out the old chimney and laying a new floor.

  • We took 140 pounds of old, nasty carpet remnants to the dump!
  • Bye-bye, gross oozy chimney!
  • Whoever originally laid this subfloor just decided to skip the most difficult parts.
  • The boy in the bubble!

  • Chim-chimery, chim-chimery, chim-chim-cheroo …
  • Hooray for friends!
  • Something like 280 pounds of chimney, hauled down the ladder.
  • Roof is patched … now for the floor & ceiling.
  • Our friend claims he saw this ladder technique in Popular Mechanics.
  • Apparently it’s hard to shoot spray foam upwards.
  • The toughest corner for laying flooring! Not too many pictures of our floor-laying process, because we were both hard at it!
  • Ta-da!
  • We’ll get around to painting the walls yet this month … I think …
